An arachnid’s body is divided into an anterior cephalothorax (prosoma) and a posterior abdomen (opisthosoma). The prosoma bears a pair of grasping or piercing appendages (the chelicerae), a pair of pedipalps used for manipulation or as sensory structures, and four pairs of walking legs.
